Meteor Catcher

Catch a meteor shower and collect constellation stars.

About Meteor Catcher

Play a free meteor shower game: catch shooting stars, dodge debris and fill six constellation patterns. A sixty-second skywatch with saved collection progress.

How to play Meteor Catcher

Start a sixty-second skywatch. Move the telescope left or right with arrow keys, the held direction buttons, or by dragging across the sky. Catch gold meteors at the telescope line; avoid coral debris. Each three catches adds a star to one of six constellation patterns. Three debris hits end the round. Pause anytime. Your collection and best score save; an interrupted round restarts.

Draconid meteor showers, turned into a little play

The Draconids are an annual early-October meteor shower associated with debris from comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner. Their name comes from Draco, the constellation from which they appear to radiate. Meteor Catcher borrows the wonder of a meteor shower for a fictional game: collect gold streaks and build simplified constellation patterns, including Draco. The game’s telescope and collection mechanic are playful inventions.

Looking for a meteor shower tonight?

This game is available anytime, but it does not forecast tonight’s sky. Visibility depends on the shower, your location, darkness and weather. Check NASA’s skywatching resources for observing information. In the game, you can enjoy a meteor shower even on a cloudy night.

Tips for your next attempt

Watch where a meteor will cross the pale line rather than chasing its current position. Short movements make it easier to avoid coral debris. Your collection grows across rounds, so a short session can still move you closer to a completed pattern.

A familiar game, a quick refresher.

  1. Build the four foundations. Place aces in the top-right spaces, then build up to kings in the same suit.
  2. Alternate colors on the table. Place a red 6 on a black 7, for example. You can move an entire face-up sequence.
  3. Make room for kings. Only a king, or a sequence starting with one, can move to an empty column.
  4. Turn over a new card. Click the face-down deck. When it runs out, click again to recycle. You can go through it as often as you like.

Keyboard: Tab to a card and press Enter to select it. Tab to the destination and press Enter again. Escape clears your selection. You can also drag cards.

Deals are random; some cannot be won. Hints suggest legal moves, not a guaranteed solution.
